Department of Fishermen welfare and Fisheries Development jointly started its working as a unit of Agriculture Department since the separate establishment of Madhya Pradesh state on 1st November 1956. In 1964, since independently beginning of the Department of Fishermen welfare and Fisheries Development, the department is constantly working for the development of people related to fishing and fisheries business in the State .
Department of Fishermen welfare and Fisheries Development, is responsible for the development and conservation of fisheries in the State, for which, efforts of the department are continuously ongoing through available resources.
The Department is under control of Principal Secretary, Fishermen welfare and Fisheries Development Department, Govt. of M.P. and M.P. Fisheries Federation (Co), Bhopal is also working under the Department.

Office of the Departmental Head for the Department of fishermen welfare and fisheries development is working at Directorate of Fisheries, Fish Farm, Bhadhbhada Road, Bhopal and Joint Director Fisheries and Deputy Director Fisheries level offices are being operated at Division Level
